Tom Brady has a message for his former protege, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, who will be making his first Super Bowl start this Sunday.
No pressure, right?
At Super Bowl LIV Opening Night in Miami on Monday, NFL Network’s Michael Irvin asked Garoppolo if his former Patriots teammate had offered any advice before the big game.
“He shot me a text, just ‘Good luck’ and everything like that,” Garoppolo told Irvin. “‘Just go handle business.’ It wasn’t too complicated or anything, just ‘Go win.'”
Coming from someone who’s won six titles in nine tries, words of wisdom sound easier said than done. Then again, this isn’t Garoppolo’s first Super Bowl prep; he won two rings while serving as Brady’s backup.
Garoppolo didn’t get into much more detail about the conversation between he and Brady, but tight end George Kittle made it sound like getting a text back from Garoppolo is quite the accomplishment.
“He is the worst texter of all time,” Kittle told reporters when asked about Garoppolo’s “not-so-perfect-side.”
“I’m telling you, he leaves me on ‘Read’ all the time,” Kittle continued. “I’ll be like ‘Hey Jimmy, I’ve got a question. Maybe on this play, should I run my route like this?’ No response. ‘Jimmy, want to go to a movie?’ No response. And then next day he’s like ‘Yeah, I got your text. I just didn’t respond.’ Thanks Jim. That’s awesome. So yeah, he’s a bad texter.”
